2014 Stanthorpe Show season to start today

THE 138th Stanthorpe Show, and Queensland's first agricultural show of 2014, will be held today and tomorrow.

The Stanthorpe Agricultural Society have prepared the first show in Queensland for more than 4000 patrons, with the gates officially opening at 5pm today.

There are a number of activities to enjoy at the Stanthorpe show across the weekend from livestock parades, wildlife shows, fashion shows, live music performed by locals and the many rides in side show alley.

Publicity officer Maria Heaven said everything was looking great, ahead of today's action.

"There are over a dozen different rides here such as the Hurricane, Scrambler and Kamikaze which are pretty popular," said Ms Heaven.

Traditional prize winning stands such as ducks and the clown heads are also there as well as dodgem cars.

"There are a lot of family friendly activities such as wildlife shows with Australian animals like snakes and wombats which will happen today from 10am," said Ms Heaven.

Face painting, the animal nursery and poultry shows are also popular activities for families with younger children.

For the first time, the Stanthorpe show will trial two nights of fireworks, sponsored by Rebel FM, starting from 7pm.

A number of other activities are also available for patrons to enjoy from the ute show starting at noon tomorrow, Kaos Ariel Motorbike Stunt Show this evening and, one of the highlights of the show, the Demolition Derby.

Local artists Reloaded, David and Sarah Hume and Penny and Roger will perform across the two days in various areas of the showground's precinct.
