Dutton starts blaming media for refugee issues

AFTER criticising refugee advocates for pressuring asylum seekers to "behave in a certain way", following two self-immolations on Nauru, Immigration Minister Peter Dutton has taken aim at the media.

He accused some media outlets of "prolonging the difficulty of these people" by holding out false hope they would come to Australia though "different resistance methods".

United Nations refugee agency UNHCR has called for the immediate transfer of refugees and asylum seekers in Australia's detention camps on Manus Island and Nauru.
