BUNNINGS DEVELOPMENT: One massive pile of dirt

AFTER months sitting idle, work on Warwick's new Bunnings Warehouse has sprung into action.

For the past few weeks, truck after truck has been dumping loads of dirt on the site to build up the pad the new warehouse will sit on.

At present the pad rises several metres about the surrounding land.

Hutchinson Builders Toowoomba, the construction company in charge of the build, were contacted by the Daily News this week, but passed the query on to Bunnings who declined to comment on proceedings at this stage.

A Bunnings spokeswoman said they would be happy to provide an update in a few month's time.

The site has been a controversial point for surrounding business owners who fear the massive pad would displace floodwaters in a detrimental way affecting the community.

An appeal against the project by real esate agent and neighbouring property owner Helen Harm was dropped late last year.

The enormous amount of dirt used on the project so far is reported to have come from a Braeside quarry.

The new warehouse is expected to be completed by late 2018.
