Call for non-league fans to head on down to Broncos game

SportsView column with Gerard Walsh

IT was amazing to see the interest last week in the Brisbane Broncos game at Father Ranger Oval on February 16.

The game will be against Intrust Super Cup side Souths Logan Magpies and not another NRL team, but the reality is there will be name players in the Broncos team for Warwick.

Many fans don't go to watch NRL games in Brisbane or at the Gold Coast but hopefully will be happy to have a look at some good footy in Warwick.

When major sport is coming to town, I love to see fans from other sports come and watch.

We want people coming to watch top quality sport, whether it is your sport of choice or not.

There will be a sportsman's dinner on the Friday night and junior clinics with juniors at Eastern Suburbs and Collegians grounds with Broncos players on the Saturday.

The aim with junior coaching will be to attract players from all clubs in the Warwick and District Junior Rugby League and not just those based in Warwick.

Polocrosse cup

TEAMS will be finalised before Christmas for the Adina Polocrosse World Cup at Morgan Park on April 22-28 next year.

The Australian team has been named and will include the Grills siblings, Lucy and Jim, and their cousin Abbott Grills.

While his focus this year has been on polocrosse and making the World Cup team, Jim is also an accomplished Aussie rules footballer who has played top footy in the Albury area and was at one time looking at an AFL career.

Next year, we want him to be part of a winning team. Australia has two cup wins, South Africa two, this is the decider.
