Campbell team drops back in second half at Le Mans

MOTORSPORT: Warwick driver Matt Campbell and his team have finished fifth in class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the most famous race in motorsport.

Campbell and his team were second after 12 hours but dropped to fifth in class at the end of the race.

For much of the season, Campbell and his team were in the top-two in class in the World Endurance Championships.

This year's 24 Hours of Le Mans was the second for Campbell who was part of the winning team in class last year.

Andy McElrea from McElrea Racing has been involved with Campbell from when the Warwick driver was in a McElrea racing car in the Porsche Carrera Cup in Australia.

McElrea said Campbell was not doing himself any harm in the Porsche system with how well he was going.

"There are some date clashes with events overseas and the V8 Supercar Enduro Series in Australia so it is unlikely Matt will be able to compete in the Australian series as he is so busy overseas,” McElrea.

The enduro series in Australia is the Sandown 500, Bathurst 1000 and Gold Coast 600.
