COMMUNITY SPEAKS: 'Are you looking after this club?'
WARWICK residents have spoken up in support of the Warwick RSL Memorial Club, saying the venue is a fantastic place for locals and visitors.
Responding to calls to "save the RSL" Michael Cooling rallied his mates together.
"Machines, Tab, Keno, Bistro, good bar, nice reception, parking, good place to go after the cricket games with Maryvale," he wrote on social media.
"Are you looking after this club? Let's help it out."
Warwick RSL Sub-branch president John Skinner said he had noticed an increase in customers in recent months and it was trading quite well.
"It is very popular for functions both big and small, that is part of the reason why they are getting back on their feet," Mr Skinner said.
He remarked on how far the club had come since it was started by the sub-branch in the 1960s.
"In the beginning it was a relatively small building, although they did have space for meals and meetings and so on" he said.
Since then the club had bought various buildings, including Kings Theatre.
Warwick RSL Memorial Club president Geraldine O'Neill said it was a beautiful venue.
"It is comfortable and air conditioned. We have everything here for the members and the public," she said.
She said older customers and young families frequented the restaurant, which was known for delicious, affordable meals.
