Cop injured after man 'pulled knife'
A WALLANGARRA man allegedly pulled a filleting knife on a police officer during a struggle between the men in the small Southern Downs town today.
Stanthorpe Police Station Acting Officer-in-Charge Shane Gleeson said police were called to a mental health incident in the town about 12.30pm.
The 30-year-old Wallangarra man then allegedly pulled out the knife, which police say was about 25cm long.
"That's resulted in a struggle between him and a Wallangarra officer,” Senior Sergeant Gleeson said.
The police officer strained his leg and was later assessed by a doctor, while the Wallangarra man was taken to Stanthorpe Hospital for assessment.
"The main priority is to take him to hospital for his mental health and then inquiries will continue,” Sgt Gleeson said.
No charges have been laid in relation to the incident at this stage.
