Cop van rammer to pay thousands for repairs

A WARWICK man who rammed a police van has been ordered to pay thousands of dollars to repair the damage.

Cornelius John Ryan pleaded guilty in Warwick Magistrates Court on Monday to one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and failing to comply with a requirement to stop.

The 47-year-old was originally also charged with high-range drink driving and failing to comply with the duties of a driver in a crash, but those two charges were dropped.

Ryan deliberately reversed into the front of the police van with his body truck and trailer in February before driving away from the scene.

He was ordered to pay a $2000 fine as well as $9553.72 restitution for damage to the police van.

Ryan will also be off the roads for a while, as he was disqualified from driving for six months.
