Cousin dobbed in as larrikin just like "Robbo”
CRICKET: Gavin O'Leary will play for Stevens Bulk Haulage in the Australia Day Cricket Carnival this weekend.
He is the first cricketer to be profiled as a larrikin like his cousin Shaun "Robbo” O'Leary.
Gavin said his cousin was pretty cheeky when at high school.
"His wife Kym quietened him down a bit,” Gavin said.
"I am not as big a larrikin as Shaun but like to have fun in the Australia Day Cricket Carnival. It is my only cricket for the year.”
Gavin recalls his one half century from "a long time ago”.
"I once hit a half century against Palace Cows at Killarney, the square boundaries were pretty short.”
He doesn't train for the cricket carnival and when asked whether his batting or bowling was best, he said "I don't specialise in either”.
His best catch was against Warwick Hotel Colts in club cricket at Slade Park.
"I took a caught and bowled but broke a finger, which was strapped up for a week or two,” he said.
"My most embarrassing moment was a golden duck. I once had a go at wicketkeeping but haven't been given the gloves since.”
While he is not in the same team, Gavin is keen to catch up with schoolmates Paul Roper and Kim Munro at the carnival.
"I like catching up and having a beer with them at the carnival.”
