Deputy Mayor confirms his departure in 2020

DEPUTY Mayor Tim Dwyer has confirmed he will not be seeking re-election at the 2020 council elections in March.

The Division 2 Councillor confirmed the news, after rumours had swirled in recent weeks that he was set to step down from the role.

In March next year he will bring up 20 years of service as an elected representative, having served the first eight years as Division 9 councillor for the former Caloundra City Council.

He served the following 12 years as Division 2 councillor in the Sunshine Coast Council, with eight of those spent as Deputy Mayor.

"I have enjoyed my time representing the wider Sunshine Coast community, and in particular my home turf of Caloundra," Cr Dwyer said.

"I will continue to seek the best outcomes for the region and Division 2 in the lead up to the election next March."

The former professional rugby league player advised he would not be available for further interviews, following the announcement.

The news comes after Division 9 councillor Steve Robinson last week announced he too would be stepping down.

Division 5 councillor Jenny McKay and Division 10 councillor Greg Rogerson had announced their retirements earlier this year, at the March election.
