Drag racers are in hotrod heaven for busy weekend

DRAG RACING: Drivers and riders will come from as far away as Roma, St George and Tamworth for the DAS Contracting Sutton Family Bracket Series at Warwick Dragway this Saturday.

Warwick District Drag Racing Association member Matt Loy said fast street would have the greatest number of entries today.

"Fast street is for street-style cars which can be modified for racing,” he said.

"They do passes in between six and 8.5 seconds.

"Half of the fast street cars will be street registered. Some people even drive their cars to the drags.”

Gates open at 8am, qualifying is from 10am and racing from 2.30pm. Loy said racing would finish around 5pm Saturday. .

"We need to beat the cold at meetings in May. The cold conditions decrease the temperature of the track and it becomes slippery,” he said.

This weekend is round two of the bracket series, the first round was washed out after action had started.

After Saturday's round, there is almost a three-month break for winter, with racing to resume with round three on August 17.

The final round and finals will be on November 16.
