Driver just too fast for his opponents in Leyburn Sprints
MOTORSPORT: Lismore driver Dean Amos has won his sixth successive overall title at the Historic Leyburn Sprints.
He bettered 40 seconds for the first time at the weekend and now has the overall lap record of 39.7 seconds.
The sixth win means that Amos has equalled the record of Toowoomba driver Ray Vandersee who also has six wins in the battle for the Col Furness Trophy for first overall.
Amos drove a 2006 Gould GR55B.
The Ann Collins Trophy for top junior was won by Tom Brelsford from Brisbane. He drove a Ford Escort Mark 2.
Two of the local placegetters from Leyburn were committee member Mike Collins who was second in the five litre touring car class.
His daughter Tricia Chant, the sprints president, was third in the same class.
While a few drivers hit the hay bales on the sprints around the streets, there were no driver injuries at the sprints
