Cunningham Highway open to traffic after fatal crash

However the eastbound lanes will remain closed as the forensic crash unit continues its investigation.
10AM: A 42-year-old man has died and a 22-year-old man is critically injured following the second horrific traffic accident on Ipswich roads in as many days.
Police believe the driver of a Holden utility crossed onto the incorrect side of the Cunningham Highway at Flinders View about 6am.
The man's ute collided head-on with a red BMW sedan headed towards Brisbane.
Inspector Keith McDonald says emergency services personnel worked feverishly for 45 minutes to try to revive the ute driver. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The jaws of life were used to remove the roof of the sedan and free the driver, who has been taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is in a critical but stable condition.
The highway will remain closed in both directions for several hours as the forensic crash unit investigates.
EARLIER: Emergency services are at the scene of a serious traffic crash on the Cunningham Highway near Flinders View.
The accident occurred before the Swanbank exit inbound.
Motorists are advised to the avoid area if possible or seek alternative routes.
