Fern Brothers bringing carols to life

IT'S beginning to look a lot like Christmas and nowhere else will it be more evident than Leslie Park on Sunday.

Warwick's annual Carols in the Park event will take place in Leslie Park, featuring acclaimed singers from the Rose City.

Family connections will be strong among performers, with musical director Erin Hilton performing on stage with daughters Tegan and Keely.

Another special bond that will be present on stage will be the Fern Brothers.

This marks their second year in the event after making their debut in 2016, and James Fern said he and brother Thomas were eagerly anticipating getting back on stage on Sunday.

"It was really enjoyable to perform last year, and to get asked to come back again this year was an honour,” James said.

"We've gotten a really positive reception from the crowd. It's a good family environment, especially for the kids. They were dancing at the front of the stage, and we were encouraging them to have fun.”

James said the opportunity to perform Christmas carols on stage, alongside his brother, was something he did not take for granted.

"I used to watch Christmas carols a fair bit, and listen to albums like Michael Buble's and a couple of other classic songs to get motivated,” he said.

"To perform alongside my brother is great.

"The relationship we have is really tight, and when you perform, you want someone you relate really well to beside you.”

James said the musical journey he has been on so far is one that continues to bear gifts.

"I was always into music, whether it be singing around the house, which I didn't do too well at the start,” he said.

"I joined a choir at a young age, and the training my parents helped me with allowed me to get better.

"Music brings a positive energy, and it is great to see groups of people come together.

"When you see what you are presenting is being received well, it is great, as is seeing people leave with a smile on their face.”

As well as top-notch tunes from some of Warwick's best local talent, other attractions will be on hand at Leslie Park.

Santa Claus will be making an appearance straight out of the North Pole, with face painting available for children, as well as prizes for those with the best Christmas-inspired costumes.

Twelve food vendors will be present at the park, from hamburgers, sausages and chips to pizza, dumplings and kebabs along with coffee vans.

The Warwick City Band will start at 4.45pm, followed by the Warwick Choral Society at 5.15pm.

The main carols program will begin at 5.30pm, featuring the Fern Brothers, Erin, Tegan and Keely Hilton, Aimee Liesegang, Kristy Searson, Emma Bell and Chapter 3.
