First A-grade finals game at stadium for most Cowboys
RUGBY LEAGUE: The versatility of Cody Byrne has been a plus for the Warwick Cowboys on the road to the TRL A-grade finals this season.
Warwick finished third on the table and play second-placed Wattles in the qualifying finals on Sunday at Clive Berghofer Stadium.
Coach Matt Grew has a squad of 21 in training for the finals series and said he expected all to be fit for the weekend.
"We will name our team at training on Friday night,” he said.
"Matt Marshall and Josh Cruice are back after going to weddings last weekend.”
"Games against Wattles are always physical whether they are in a trial, fixture or finals game,” he said.
"I want to dominate across the field, we have to get it right against Wattles. They are strong in their middle attack and on each side.”
Marshall will come back into the starting 13 at centre and Cruice in the second row.
Five Cowboys players from the current team were in the team which made the grand final in 2016, Marshall, fullback Craig Donn, back rowers Shane Broomhall and Mick Bloomfield, and centre Joe Fuimaono.
"We have 10-12 players in the side who haven't played A-grade finals footy at Clive Berghofer Stadium,” he said.
"The stadium adds atmosphere to the game, the players run out of the tunnel for the game after getting ready in dressing rooms like they have in professional sport.”
Grew is upbeat about the performaces of some of his younger players this season.
"Cody Byrne is first year up from the under-18 grade and has played well at centre, lock and second row,” he said.
