Free showers on offer to Stanthorpe residents

SHOWERING can become a source of distress during drought due to its high water usage, so as of this weekend Stanthorpe residents will have another option available to help ease the burden.

As of Sunday 1 September, Stanthorpe residents will have access to free showers at the Stanthorpe Fitness Centre.

Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor Tracy Dobie said the ongoing drought has brought hardship to many of the residents throughout the region.

Southern Downs residents, particularly those who are not connected to the council's reticulated water supply, were concerned about the amount of water showering takes, Cr Dobie said.

"We do not want residents to be forced to choose between showering and having drinking water available,” Cr Dobie said.

"This is an opportunity for residents to access much needed amenities and shower without concern they are taxing their home resources.”

Attendees will need to bring proof of their residence within the Southern Downs region such as a licence, proof of age card, or any documentation that shows their current address within the Southern Downs.

Children will need to be accompanied by an adult bearing this identification.

Residents will also need to bring their own personal products such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels, and shower timers.

Those accessing the free showers at Stanthorpe Fitness Centre are reminded that critical water restrictions are in place and showers should be limited to four minutes.

For more information, residents can phone the council on 1300697372.
