Self-taught singer sings up storm at X-Factor auditions

AFTER pleading with her teachers to let her sing, Rockhampton's Friday McMullen might now be singing in front of all of Australia.

The 17-year-old said Tuesday was the biggest day of her life after travelling to Mackay for the first round of X-Factor auditions.

The self-taught singer said it's always been her dream to be recognised for her vocal talent.

"I've always wanted to become famous for my singing," she said.

"When I was younger at school I would always follow my teachers around asking, 'Miss, can I please sing for you'?"

Friday said she auditioned two songs in Mackay; including The Sapphires' Who's Loving You.

But said she wouldn't find out if she had made it through to the next round until March next year.

"If I got through, oh my gosh it would be a dream come true, it would be amazing," she said.

Other Central Queensland singers who have made it through on national talent shows include Sophie Ellis, Dean Brady and Zach Russell.
