Grand final key will be first 10 minutes on Sunday
RUGBY LEAGUE: Matt Marshall believes the first 10 minutes will be a key for the Warwick Cowboys in the A-grade grand final against Valleys at Clive Berghofer Stadium, Toowoomba, on Sunday at 3pm.
Marshall was wanting Wattles to win the preliminary final to set up a classic Warwick/Wattles grand final but Valleys won 47-28.
"We need to start well and weather their early storm in the first 10 minutes and keep them tryless,” he said.
"The Cowboys have points in them, we have just got to stop the Valleys points.”
He has played in five grand finals and won one with Moree Boomerangs in Group 19, New South Wales, in 2013.
One of the losses was 18-12 with the Warwick Cowboys to Pittsworth in 2016
"I am confident we can beat Valleys on Sunday but will be a bit nervous at the start,” he said.
While he started his career at centre, Marshall has played hooker, five-eighth, lock and second row in senior footy.
He believes two of the best centres he has played with are current Cowboys centre Joe Fuimaono and 2016 Warwick grand final centre Dylan Galloway.
"I love the challenge of defending against my opposite number and also challenging him when I have the ball in attack,” he said.
Marshall has lived in Warwick for four years and his partner Tiarra and two children will be at the game. He works in Stanthorpe as a youth worker.
The Warwick centre said there was a better feel in the team about the grand final than three years ago.
"We need to start well and weather their early storm, the Cowboys have points in them, we have just got to stop the Valleys points.”
