Hundreds turn out for Tank's last battle
MORE than 600 people turned out at WIRAC last night to watch local pro boxer Kyle Teer in his last outing.
The event, organised by Fox Fight Promotions Chris Fox, was staged in Teer's honour, for his service to boxing in Warwick.
However, with just 24 hours to go before Saturday's event at WIRAC, the main event match-up faced a serious hurdle.
"Kyle's opponent Jesse Travers, had an issue with some paperwork and the boxing board wouldn't sanction the fight as a result," Fox said.
"So suddenly I'm without a main event, and the whole reason I was putting the show on in the first place was in serious jeopardy."
After some frantic phone calls, a replacement was found in Sunshine Coast fighter, Kurt Finlayson.
"Plenty of people were saying I'd never find someone for a pro fight at such short notice, but it worked out thankfully," Fox said.
"I cannot thank Kurt enough for what he did for us - he saved the show and we got pro boxing back in Warwick after a break of 75 years."
Fox said he hadn't heard any bad feedback about the night.
"Everyone loved it by the sounds," he said.
"Which is great to know and means I'll probably looking more of these events, maybe two a year, in spring and autumn.
"It was a great crowd and really well-behaved, there was no trouble and no idiots, which was really good to see."
It wasn't the fairytale ending for Teer though, with the local fighter going down on points after the four round bout.
The proposed 10 corporate match ups that preceded the main event fell to eight with a few pull-outs but Fox managed to get one back and said the crowd loved the fun of the amateur bouts.
"They were all really good matches," he said.
"We had a few stoppages, but overall it was a lot of fun.
"Most of the thanks for helping me pull this all together and getting everything behind the scenes organised go to my wife Leah.
"She did a mountain of work organising the insurances and working together with WIRAC to host the event. It's very much appreciated.
"And to every else who helped with canteen and manning the doors, and with the set up and the clean up this morning, thanks for all your help."
