LISTEN: New podcast for 2020 council election
THIS year is set to be the year of elections.
President Donald Trump is set to face a yet-undecided Democratic candidate for the title of leader of the free world, New Zealand will head back to the polls and here in Queensland history will be made when a female Premier goes up against a female Opposition Leader.
But most importantly to The Chronicle and its readers the fourth Toowoomba Regional Council will be elected.
We are just nine weeks out from the next local government election, which will be held on March 28.
Dozens of new candidates have announced their intention to run for council and most of the current councillors are set to run again.
Toowoomba’s Mayor Paul Antonio will also run again for the top job.
To cut through the noise of social media posts from candidates, The Chronicle will today release the first episode of a new podcast exploring the 2020 local government elections.
Throughout the course of the next nine weeks we will be speaking with Mayor Paul Antonio on the past council term and what he would want to achieve if re-elected, we will speak with retiring councillors and candidates about their big visions for the city and we will speak to you about what you want to see from the next council.
The first episode features digital producer Tobi Loftus and council reporter Tom Gillespie looking into what the biggest issues are as we head into the election.
The first episode will be released later this morning.
