Local players to share matchday with Broncos

RUGBY LEAGUE: If the local crowd calls out Mitch in Saturday's first Toowoomba Clydesdales games against Brisbane Wests, it could be one of two, Watson from Warwick and Duff from Wattles.

Both are making their debut at open level for the Clydesdales in the 2pm clash with a Brisbane Wests team from the Brisbane Rugby League.

Mitch Watson is on the wing and Mitch Duff will come off the bench in the same game for Toowoomba Team 1.

Warwick also has players in the 3.30pm between Toowoomba and Wests.

The games are curtain raisers to the Brisbane Broncos clash with Souths Logan Magpies at 6pm Saturday in which five NRL players will be in action.

TRL president Brian Gilroy said the aim of the Clydesdales selectors and coach Ned Murphy was selecting two teams of equal abilities.

His assistants on Saturday include Wattles coach Travis Burns and former Texas player Tony Morris.

Watson, prop Sam Broomhall and hooker Ben Sullivan are the three Warwick players in Toowoomba Team 1 for the early game along with five players from Wattles, Duff, starting back rowers Ty Gardner and Mitch Koina, centre Jake Hargreaves and bench players Nick Van Der Poel and Nathan Gaulton.

Toowoomba Team 2 includes Warwick pair Matt Marshall and Craig Donn who will both come off the bench.

After this weekend, one Toowoomba team will be selected for the representative season so the game is basically a selection trial.

Two of the players set to delight the crowd with their attacking ability are fullbacks Corey Blades (No.1 team) and Dylan Chown (No.2 team).

Warwick fullback Craig Donn is on the bench for Toowoomba Team 2 and is set to run hard when given the chance. He could also come on in the back row.

Donn loves taking the high ball which is not something every fullback loves and has earnt his spot in the Clydesdales with consistency in recent years.

Former Warwick State High School student Jazz Namana is on the bench for Toowoomba Team 2. He now plays for Souths.

Both Toowoomba teams train at 6.30pm Wednesday at Valleys ground.

Tickets are still on sale for the Sportsman's Dinner on Friday night at the Cowboys Clubhouse at which Broncos coach Anthony Seibold and players Andrew McCullough, Tevita Pangai Jnr and Matthew Lodge will be interviewed by Broncos media manager Trad McLean.

Boys up to the under-12 and girls of all ages welcome at a free coaching clinic with the Broncos players at 11am-1pm at the junior rugby league grounds at Jackie Howe Oval. Register on the day or on https://playnrl.com/
