Losing locks raises dollars for Movember

FORGET shaving, take part in Movember this month and help make a difference in the lives of men in the Southern Downs.

JC's Inspirational Hair owner Jessica Carey has made it her mission to raise money for men's health this month, one haircut at a time.

"I contacted a lady in Toowoomba and we're making sure the funds raised will go directly back into the Darling Downs community to help local men," Ms Carey said.

"A lot of men neglect to go to the doctor, and I think this is really an important cause.

"There is a lot of fundraising done for breast cancer but not so much for prostate cancer. It's good to do something a little bit different."

Two dollars from every men's haircut in November at JC's Inspirational Hair will be donated to Movember.

"I think it works well for us being hairdressers," Ms Carey said.

"There are a lot of men who come to the salon, and I thought we could do something for them.

"We raised over $700 last year and we would really like to beat that this time.

"The community has been very supportive, and we are hoping more people get behind the cause."

Fundraising at the salon also includes a $2 board with a $50 cash prize and a $1 raffle with prize packs valued at more than $50.

Last year, more than one million moustaches were grown across the world for Movember.

Nowadays, Movember runs official campaigns in 21 countries and has raised more than $440 million for men's health so far.
