Memo to past Cowboys players - the Old Boys group is for you

RUGBY LEAGUE: The Warwick Cowboys Old Boys will get together at 11am on Saturday at Father Ranger Oval to further develop their plans to support the four Cowboys teams in the Toowoomba Rugby League competition.

Long-time Cowboys player Shaun O'Leary is the inaugural president, with current reserve-grade coach Mark Sullivan secretary and under-18 coach Matt Grew treasurer.

Broncos list and development manager Peter Nolan is patron.

Sullivan said he hoped club membership would pass 100 on the weekend.

"We already have 70 members, and all past players and officials and those interested are welcome to the get-together on Saturday,” he said.

The function starts at 11am and the luncheon is free for current members or for those who join on the day.

"There are more than 1000 players who have been involved with the Cowboys since club volunteer Garry Hanson started keeping records in 1995,” Sullivan said.

The Cowboys started in 1986, formed from members from Eastern Suburbs and Collegians, which played in the Warwick and District St George Cup competition until the end of the 1985 season.

O'Leary said the aim of the old boys association was to keep the players together after they retired.

"We want to raise funds for the Cowboys club and on Saturday night will be auctioning the heritage jerseys which the A-grade team will wear against Gatton on Saturday,” he said.

"The jersey design is based on the Cowboys strip during one of the first 15 years of the club.

"We already have plans for reunions for two past grand final teams next year.”

Membership is $100, which includes a member's shirt, membership badge, free entry to a number of functions and free membership to the Warwick Cowboys Rugby League Football Club which includes admission to home games.

This Saturday, Nolan will compere the formal part of the club luncheon. All past presidents of the Cowboys have been invited and Nolan will interview inaugural club president Mick Gaffney.

The Cowboys Old Boys plan to watch all four games between Warwick and Gatton, starting with the second-division game at 2.10pm Saturday.

The A-grade game is at 6.30pm, followed by the auction and entertainment provided by Cowboys player Luke Costello.
