One season down, another to start in ladies squash

SQUASH: The Warwick Ladies Social Squash Club rounded off season 1 in 2017 with a fun-filled presentation night at the Sovereign Hotel.

President Melinda Walker presented prizes to grand final winning Blue Team Cab Sav, which comprised Judy Collins, Leanne Olsen, Shannon Aspinall and Cerelle Krause.

Team Cab Sav efficiently disposed of Yellow Team Chardy in the finals, meaning that Jill Hume, Melinda Walker, Carolyn Diprose and Chrissy Stammers took home the runners-up prize in a final that saw Krause defeat not only her line 4 opponent, but also play above her line and taking a set to create the upset overall.

Green Team Merlot, comprising of Line 1 winner Zoe Cox, Silvana Malone, Margaret Kelly and Kate Brown were happy to take the honours for the plate final, narrowly defeating Red Team Sav Blanc with Sandy Groves, Michelle Fischer, Lesley Parrinder and Jo-anne Gaskell.

Gaskell's season form was rewarded with the encouragement award while ladies social squash newcomer Margaret Kelly received the season's most improved player.

Line winners were Zoe Cox (Line 1), Michelle Fischer (Line 2), Lesley Parrinder (Line 3) and Chrissy Stammers (Line 4).

The muster for season 2 is this Thursday from 6.30pm and all players, young and old, are welcome to come along to have a try at the St Mary's Courts in Guy St, just north of Wood St.

Ladies squash is a social competition that encourages all abilities and offers a chance to have a game of squash in a casual, friendly environment. The ladies competition is held every Thursday during school term time from 6.30pm.

This season will start July 27. If unable to attend this Thursday's muster, please call Melinda Walker 0427110878 or Jill Hume 0414303905.
