Plenty shine for Warwick on day 1 of the hockey

HOCKEY: Warwick will play Toowoomba 2 in their first game on day 2 of the Queensland under-15 boys hockey championships at Queens Park.

The game will be at 10.10am.

On the first day, Warwick went down 4-0 to Mt Isa and 2-0 to Gympie.

Tyler Hollis, Hugh Inmon and Shea Massey were the best against Mt Isa while goalie Riley Nixon, Alex Shadlow and Harry Newton were three of the best for Warwick against Gympie.

The Warwick team has been boosted by players from Toowoomba, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

There are 14 players in the squad and coach Jayden McLaughlin and manager Mark Shadlow are aiming to give each player the same amount of time on the field.

After being committed to underage Darling Downs cricket trials on Sunday, Queensland under-12 hockey player Sam Bourke will take the field for Warwick for the next three days when he goes up an age group.

There are 12 teams in division 1 and six, including Warwick, in division 2.

Crossover games will start at 11.30am Tuesday.

The first games each day on the synthetic and two grass fields are at 7.30am and the last game on the synthetic are at 6.10pm Monday and Tuesday. Spectators welcome and canteen open.
