Prep kids ready for adventure of lifetime
ON TUESDAY morning Deakon Brown will step into the gates of St Mary’s to start first day of school ever.
Already familiar with the campus after a meet and greet with his teacher, the energetic five-year old will most likely make a beeline for the playground.
“What I’m most excited for when I start school is playing on the monkey bars all day,” he said.
“I’m really excited, I can also write my name.”
Deakon’s mother Emma Hughes said while he may not get to play on the play ground all day, she doesn’t think he’ll have much trouble learning new things.
“He’s a really laid-back kid, he’s my first to go to school but I’m not really worried about him,” she said.
“The one challenge will probably be getting him to sit still, he’s a very active kid.”
But Ms Hughes said it will be surreal to send her first child off to school for five days a week.
“I guess waiting for this time to happen has been ages and now it’s finally here and I think oh my gosh it’s already time for him to go.”
Coming form St Mary’s kindy, Deakon will be joined by good friends.
“I’ve got friends and my best friend Xavier is coming but Beckett my other friend is in a different class,” he said.
“I’m excited to make new friends though.”
With a fresh haircut, pristine uniform and very white shoes, Deakon was proud to show off his back to school look.
“It’s comfy to play in and my haircut looks cool.”
“It’ll be a big change for all of us,” Ms Hughes said.
“But he’s a very easy going and happy little boy, I think he’ll do well.”
