Record territory for Warwick historic meet

MOTOR RACING: Some of the most exciting racing at this weekend's Historic Queensland meeting at Morgan Park will be in open wheeler cars.

The open wheelers include Formula Ford, Vee and junior as well as Formula 2 and 3.

They will compete in a class for sports/racing cars from 1948 to 1984.

With open wheel cars competing for the Historic Racing Car Club Trophy and the combined sports car classes vying for the Queensland Tourist Trophy, there'll be big fields of impressive cars and drivers.

There will also be production sports cars, including Porsche, Ferrari, Bolwell, Alfa and Datsun Z cars, as well as historic sports sedans.

Garry Ford's V8 Escort will be challenged by 20 highly modified sports sedans in a super sprint format.

Phil Brock will be at the event all weekend and will be happy to tell tales of his own career and co-driving stints with big brother, multi-Bathurst and ATCC champion, the late Peter Brock.

With two huge fields of regularity trials showcasing a multitude of makes and models at their best, there'll be non-stop on-track action all weekend before a huge Show 'n' Shine for spectators' classic cars on Sunday.

There are 280 nominations for the meeting, a record for a meeting at Morgan Park and a possible record for biggest field in the state.
