ROSE CITY: 'Big W has invested heavily in our centre'
WHILE fears circulate about the projected closure of Warwick Big W, others have moved to calm concerns.
A spokesman from McConaghy Group said the suggestion of Big W closing their store at Rose City Shoppingworld was speculation.
"Woolworths Limited has invested heavily in our centre in the last 18 months including a full refit of Woolworths supermarket and in upgrading their Big W store," the spokesman said.
"Like us, we believe they have a lot of confidence in Warwick and the region.
"Our understanding is that Warwick is a valued performer for the company.
"The response to the redevelopment of Rose City by the community and our retailers has been extremely positive."
Questions about the future of the Warwick store surfaced following a report by Macquarie Wealth Management.
Warwick resident Gary Kelly expressed his confidence in the store.
"Having a Big W Distribution Centre is a positive to retaining a Big W store," Mr Kelly wrote on social media.
"Warwick is a major centre for a large district and I'm sure that reward card monitoring would confirm that the store is servicing many postcodes rather than just 4370."
Donna Page said the company would be "mad" to close the Warwick shop.
"Considering the almost-monopoly they currently have I think the company would be mad to close this store," she said.
"Very few people bother to cross the road to Target, but business would at least boom for them."
Others have called for Kmart to replace Big W in the event of a closure.
