BOXING: Rose City Boxing Club pair Jacko McMahon and Jake Wyllie will be in action at a tournament in Caboolture tomorrow.

A boxer from Victoria is flying to Brisbane this weekend to fight McMahon in the 75kg division.

Both have similar records, McMahon has 18 wins in 31 fights and his opponent 12 wins in 22 fights.

Rose City trainer Damien Lawler said McMahon had really improved in the past couple of months.

"It is amazing how well he is going,” Lawler said.

Last weekend, McMahon represented Queensland for the fifth time.

He competed for the Queensland State of Origin team for the second time against South Australia in Adelaide.

McMahon beat his opponent by a unanimous points decision.

Experienced Queensland coach Allan Nicolson was in his corner in Adelaide.

He was in a team of 11 Queensland boxers who competed.

McMahon is now doing an apprenticeship as a wall

and floor tiler with

Killarney tradesman Luke Bartz but still finds time to be one of the hardest training boxers on the Darling Downs.

Wyllie is heading to Caboolture tomorrow and Lawler hopes a match can be arranged.

"There is a boxer from Caboolture one weight range above Jake and there is a strong chance they could be matched this weekend,” he said.
