Scott Sio axed from Wallabies squad

SCOTT Sio has been dropped for the second Test with England at AAMI Park, Melbourne on Saturday night.

Prop Sio, one of the stars of the Wallabies’ World Cup campaign, had a torrid time in the front row in the 39-28 defeat at Suncorp Stadium and was sin-binned in the second half for persistent scrummaging offences.

While Sio has been axed from the squad altogether, his fellow front-rower, loosehead James Slipper, will swap sides to allow Sekope Kepu to be promoted to the run-on side.

Greg Holmes will be joined by Melbourne Rebels prop Toby Smith on an extended bench as coach Michael Cheika looks for answers in the scrum.

Cheika has also decided not to replace injured David Pocock with a traditional No.8, instead choosing flanker Sean McMahon, who has never played the position before for either the Medlbourne Rebels or his country.

Rob Simmons has succumbed to the back injury which forced him off in Brisbane.

He will be replaced by Sam Carter, who will join Brumbies teammate Rory Arnold in the second row.

Back-rowers Ben McCalman and Wycliff Palu are among the reserves.

Cheika will narrow down his bench tomorrow with Palu, Liam Gill and James Horwill most in danger of dropping out.

Wallabies: Israel Folau, Dane Haylett-Petty, Tevita Kuridrani, Samu Kerevi, Rob Horne, Bernard Foley, Nick Phipps, Sean McMahon, Michael Hooper, Scott Fardy, Rory Arnold, Sam Carter, Sekope Kepu, Stephen Moore (c), James Slipper. Reserves (three to be omitted on Friday): Tatafu Polota-Nau, Toby Smith, Greg Holmes, Dean Mumm, James Horwill, Ben McCalman, Liam Gill, Wycliff Palu, Nick Frisby, Christian Lealiifano, Luke Morahan.
