Station chief addresses cause of fire at Rosenthal Heights

POLICE and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service investigators are looking at a blown tyre as the possible cause of a fire that ripped through Rosenthal Heights, south of Warwick, yesterday.

"The cause is currently under investigation but that is a pretty good rumour," Warwick station officer Dennis Burton said.

The fire sparked shortly before 2pm yesterday.

Urban and rural fire crews scrambled to control it.

"The unprecedented dryness of the vegetation, the warmth of the day, low humidity and the speed of the wind made it a fast moving fire," Mr Burton said.

"On arrival crews were met with a number of structures under threat but they were able to bring the fire under control."

Crews are still on scene and the site has the potential to flare up .

"I checked it this morning and it is all looking good but as the day progresses and the heat picks up embers could be blown ahead," Mr Burton said.

"There are still large logs burning in the area."
