Support from Supercars to drought aid on Southern Downs
A RUGBY union club from the Gold Coast arrived at the Warwick Rugby Union Club on Sunday with water and food for drought victims worth more than $1000.
The Helensvale Rugby Union Club made a call on social media a week ago for donations of water to take to the drought areas and ended up with three car loads and one trailer load of water and food.
Helensvale club member and player Euan Dunsmore said he brought up the idea of supporting the drought areas with the club president after the junior trophy night.
"The president said it was a good idea and with the help of my mum Sam Dunsmore and Melanie Pearson, we started the campaign on social media,” he said.
"The Supercars organisation donated $540 worth of food and the club members donated more than $500 worth of water.”
Warwick Water Rats player Joe Levick said the donations would be a great help to the community especially after the bush fires at Stanthorpe.
Some of the food was dog and cat food but Mr Dunsmore said pets were part of the family and needed to be looked after.
Water Rats life member Guy Sugden said the club would be in contact with the drought relief committee so as to distribute the food and water where most needed
