Visitor info team run off their feet with packed calendar

THE "click click" of the Visitor Centre door opening and closing is very rhythmical and frequent as the temperature dips and visitor numbers swell in the region.

While the cold is strangely the attraction, my warm feelings come from seeing visitors immerse themselves in regional wintry fun - everything from a curry night at Spring Creek Mountain Café, Christmas in July at McNevin's and the Abbey, snowflakes and snowman building up in the Granite Belt, to of course our impending craziness with jumpers on trees.

A highlight of my week has been seeing locals drop in to the visitor centre.

We are a perfect community contact point, offering not only key information about what's on, where to stay and who to talk to, but also we are stocking an increased range of local product.

Lorraine from Guy House B&B has been in to check out our new teapot cosies, hand-crafted by a talented local artisan.

These make a treasured and sentimental gift that could easily become a family heirloom, just like many of the teapot cosies whose stories are being told in the upcoming exhibition at the art gallery (they look amazing).

It was great to see another local in buying orange and whiskey marmalade for her father-in-law's upcoming birthday, all because of a Facebook post on our range of Frog & Swallow jams and preserves.

Just a couple of weeks out, I urge you to study the Jumpers & Jazz program - grab a copy from the Art Gallery, VIC or local cafes, or go online for a full program download and secure those bookings.

Sell-out events like the Launch Party on Friday 19th and Spicers Chocolate-dipped Letters women's afternoon on the 21st are a hot ticket so get in early.

In all the busyness, it is heartening to have such an enthusiastic team.

VIC coordinator Amy Walker has been joined by new event coordinator Julie Peterson, UQ student Kirstin Payne on marketing and social media and of course Shona is cracking the whip as she passes the baton prior to her overseas adventure.

Just two weeks until JJJ madness and mayhem.
