Warwick could lose beloved Big W in projected store closures
WARWICK could soon lose one of the town's most iconic and beloved shops - Big W.
A list of 30 regional Big W stores most at-risk of closing has been released in the wake of massive company losses, with Warwick named as one of the stores most at-risk of closing.
It is one of six shops in Queensland tipped to lose out in a spate of expected closures.
Dalby, Gladstone, Yeppoon, North Rockhampton and Emerald could also bid the mega-store farewell.
The company has not confirmed closures, but a report from Macquarie Wealth Management has run the slide rule over Big W in the lead-up to an expected update from Woolworths in the coming weeks.
The report argues that a cost-effective strategy to help return the chain to profitability would include "cutting of the tail” and drastically reducing the 183 stores.
Regional areas, including Warwick, are expected to be hit hardest.
