Warwick driver wins in greatest race in the world
MOTORSPORT: Warwick driver Matt Campbell has one win from one race in the greatest race in the world, the Le Mans 24 Hour.
While all 60 teams in four classes were on the 13km circuit all the time, Campbell was in GTE-Am class in the #77 Dempsey Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR.
He and Julian Andlauer (France) were the two professionals in the team and Christian Ried (Germany) the one amateur which allowed them to compete
The team is supported by American actor Patrick Dempsey, hence the team name.
They were fastest in their class in the official pre-event test day and led for most of the race overnight Saturday to win their class.
It wasn't they won as their car was the fastest, there was a lot of driver skill involved as 10 Porsche 911 RSR cars competed in the 86th Les Mans.
Porsche had four factory teams in the race and six teams from customer cars.
