Warwick player scores two tries in women's rugby

RUGBY UNION: Warwick drew 5-all with Goondiwindi in its first game in the Darling Downs Rugby Union Women's Sevens Carnival at USQ on Saturday.

The girls played under new captain-coach Carly Cooper who took over after previous coach Chris Donovan resigned due to other commitments in the club.

Sam Burton scored in the draw against Goondiwindi and then scored another try against USQ in the Warwick loss.

"We finished the carnival with seven fit players and lost to USQ and Bears,” Cooper said.

"Sam Burton and Emily Rhodes both played well in the halves.

"Aleisha Bell played her first game for the Water Rats and was good in attack on the wing.”

Cooper is keen to recruit more players and said prospective players were welcome at training at 6pm Thursday at Risdon Oval or could communicate with the club on the Warwick Water Rats Faceook page.

The next women's sevens carnival will be in a fortnight in Warwick on the same day the Warwick men are playing Goondiwindi in B grade.
