Warwick stars win award after best Targa finish
ROB Balint and Peter Lane are two of the finalists/monthly winners for the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Senior Sports Star of the Year awards night on February 19 at the Warwick RSL Memorial Club.
Balint was the driver and Lane the navigator of Team Betta Warwick as the pair came fourth in the early modern class in last year's Targa Tasmania, an event rated as the top targa in the world. It was their best finish in six Targa Tasmania events.
Going into day 6 in Tasmania, they were fourth in class and had a brilliant first three stages to make up ground.
"We started day six in fourth place three minutes behind third and another minute behind second and made up a lot of ground in the first three stages,” he said.
"We were confident we could finish third and push hard for second but had a mechanical issue and lost five minutes to limp home in fourth.”
Each team at Targa Tasmania aims to finish within a set time in their class to receive the prestigious Targa Plates and Team Betta Warwick achieved the time for a fifth time in six targas in 2017.
