Young motorsport driver in her eighth year on track

MOTORSPORT: The family side of motorsport was there for all to see when the Buccini family lobbed in to Morgan Park at the weekend.

Competing under the Buccini Racing name, Paul Buccini and daughters Karlie and Sophia from Brisbane all competed in round 2 for B series drivers in the Queensland Super Sprints.

At age 24, Karlie is in her eighth year of racing and was first in the improved production 2000cc to 3000cc class at the weekend.

Her father Paul was first in production, five litres and over, class.

The youngest in the family, Sophia, 17, is in her first year of motor racin and was 11th in the improved production 1600cc to 2000cc.

Karlie said motorspoort was an adrenaline rush and heaps of fun.

"There is great camaraderie among the drivers,” she said.

While last weekend was all about sprint racing, Karlie said she preferred circuit racing and was first in class at last month's round of the Queensland Motor Racing Championships.

There is more chance of some vehicle panel damage in championship racing.

"I just had a rub on the side of the car in last month's championships,” she said.

The jury is still out on whether Sophia will be a racing car driver in the long term.

"I did a bit of racing last year and then had knee injury from an injury at dancing,” she said.

Paul's wife Claire Buccini competes in rally car driving.
